Ucluelet offers the visitor a unique experience that celebrates the outdoors and all things natural! On our recent trip, we couldn't help but notice "Ukee" as it is locally known, offers more than most people believe.
The Wild Pacific Trail welcomes you to enjoy its wide gravel paths, with viewpoints and benches for those preferring to sit and enjoy the view. There are coves, rocky outcrops, trails and beautiful vantage points to drink in the beauty. The shops and galleries are fun and funky and the cafes and restaurants serve up some great homemade food as well as offering locally caught fresh fish.
An abundance of water based adventures can be booked here and the busy harbour is alive with commercial and recreational fishing boats, kayaks, tour vessels and charters. Come and visit the Ucluelet Aquarium with its ever changing line up of marine life. Enjoy touch tanks that allow you to handle sea urchins, cucumbers, starfish and sponges. This non-profit marine education centre is fantastic and should not be missed. Elm Hill sponsors a touch tank here and we urge you to take the time to stop here. It is an experience that you'll talk about for years.
In Ucluelet accommodation runs from the very affordable to the luxurious. Depending on the type of getaway you're after, i guarantee that you'll find great people, great service and something to fit every budget.
CAUTION: This is a remote west coast community surrounded by ocean and rain forest. The elements, the water and the wildlife must be respected. Dress for the weather, tell someone where you're going, be prepared and always check for wildlife warnings and sightings. Be very aware of water hazards and remember that even though logs look heavy the they will move around in certain conditions.
