Just an hours drive from Victoria, Sooke offers a natural playground with its beaches, pot holes, waterfalls and rainforests. Set out on one of the many trails for hiking, biking, walking or riding adventures. Camp and take time in the area to explore a shoreline that boasts fantastic beaches, tidal pools and storm watching or enjoy sport fishing, surfing, kayaking or a whale watching excursion. It's all here.
You’re closer than you may think at just an hour to out of Victoria and depending on who you ask, about 3 hrs if you cut across the Island from Duncan. If you do start up Island, head for Sooke via Lake Cowichan, Port Renfrew and Jordan River which is a great drive as well but it’s not for the faint of heart. Logging trucks, one lane bridges, and tight, windy roads makes this a very popular run for motorcycles and cyclists.
There are any number of accommodation types in town and in the area including camping, B & B's, private vacation rentals and award winning expensive accommodation and budget hotels and motels.
This healthy arts community has a good number of home studios and galleries in the area and plays host to a number of events. Sooke Harbour House, The Sooke Visitor Centre and The Sooke Fine Art Gallery will give you a lovely taste of what’s going on in the arts sector. Not to mention other shops and local businesses.
The Visitor Centre can supply you with seasonal event information and are happy to answer questions and help you enjoy your visitor by pointing out regional and local sights and services.
