Amphitrite Point Lighthouse
In 1914 a tsunami washed the original tower away. Once the wave hit, the lamp was replaced and in 1919 James Fraser became the "keeper of the light" . With wartime cutbacks, he made $10.00 a month to hike out 1 mile at sunset to light the lamp wick, another trek at midnight to trim the wick and another at dawn to put the lamp out. This happened everyday regardless of the weather.
