Vancouver Island Marine Pubs

Recently a friend of ours bought a 19 foot boat with a cuddy cabin and a 4 cylinder inboard with mercruiser leg.  “Let’s go for a sea trial.” He didn’t have to ask twice.

We trailered the boat to the Brechin Boat Ramp just south of Departure Bay, and launched without drama.  As we cruised down Newcastle Channel you couldn’t help but be impressed with this view of Nanaimo’s skyline.  Very cosmopolitan.

Initially we were going to motor over to Gabriola Island for lunch in Silva Bay but were thwarted as the new owners were immersed in final renovations and wouldn’t be open until May 1st. No worries as the sun was shining and after leaping over 4 foot waves we decided to head to the Dinghy Dock for lunch.

This is a wonderful pub made all the more pleasant with the sun issuing in the first warmth of spring.  We ordered fish and chips, a pint of prawns , crab cakes and a couple of beers, all of which were superb.

During this most excellent lunch we thought it a brilliant idea to visit as many Vancouver Island marine pubs as possible over the boating season.  It is highly recommended to make reservations for transient (guest) moorage in all harbours and marinas.

The following is not a complete list and if you have a favourite marine pub we would love to hear about it.
